addressing mode
One of the ways an instruction can say which memory address it means - from a register, a register plus a number, and so on.
An addressing mode is a rule for forming the effective address of a memory operand from registers and constants; x86-64 offers base + index*scale + displacement and an instruction-pointer-based form, ARM64 base plus immediate or scaled register with optional pre- or post-indexing, RISC-V only base plus a 12-bit signed offset.
