Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-10-01
This page says what ai-teacher stores about you and why. The short version: we keep what is needed to run your account and remember your progress, we do not sell it, and we show no ads.
What we store
- Account: your email address, the name you chose, and a one-way hash of your password. We cannot read your password.
- Learning records: the answers you submit, quiz and exam results, section progress, notes you write, practice and challenge history.
- AI features, if you turn them on: your provider key, encrypted; a log of each AI request (which feature, when, how large); and your tutor conversations so you can continue them. Details are on the Privacy tab in Settings.
- Feedback you send us, including any screenshot you attach.
- GitHub, if you connect it: your GitHub username and an access token, encrypted, and the names of the private repositories we created for you.
- Purchases: that you bought access, the amount and date, and Stripe's reference for the payment. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
- Visit counts: for each page served, the day, the page, the site that linked to it, whether the visitor was signed in, and a code that changes every day so we can count unique visitors without keeping your IP address or recognising you on another day. This is counted by our own server. No tracking script or cookie is involved, and nothing is shared. These records are deleted after about 13 months.
- Server logs: the address your request came from and the page requested, kept for a short time to keep the site secure and working.
Cookies
We set only the cookies the site needs: one that keeps you logged in, one that protects forms from forgery, one that holds a sign-in open while you enter your emailed or app code, one that remembers a browser you chose to trust for 30 days, and small ones that remember display choices such as dark mode. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
Who else sees your data
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server the site and database live on.
- Stripe, when you make a purchase.
- Our email provider, to deliver messages such as password resets.
- Your AI provider, if you add a key: the text needed to answer your request is sent to them under your key.
- GitHub, if you connect your account in Settings. When you choose "Open in Codespaces" on a project, we use your token to create a private repository named ai-teacher-… in your account, copy that project's files into it, and start a codespace there. GitHub's repository permission would also allow access to your other repositories; we never read or change them. Codespace hours come from your own GitHub account. Disconnect in Settings at any time, or remove our access at github.com/settings/applications. Repositories we created stay in your account until you delete them.
- Google or GitHub, if you sign in with them. We ask only for your name, your verified email address and an account number that identifies you to that service, never your password or access to your files, contacts or repositories. We keep the email and that number so you can sign in again. Disconnect it in Settings → Account, or remove our access in your Google or GitHub account settings.
- Code sites you choose to open. Some code examples have an "Open in …" link to Compiler Explorer, Python Tutor or the Rust Playground. Following one opens that site in your browser with the example's code, which we wrote, in the address. We send it nothing from your account; as with any website you visit, it sees your IP address and browser. Its own privacy policy applies there, and some of these sites show ads.
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Your choices
- Change your name or password in Settings → Account.
- Delete your account there at any time. Your account, progress, notes, saved key, GitHub connection and Google or GitHub sign-in links are removed. Feedback reports you sent are kept without your name attached.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for a correction, by writing to mike@russo-dev.com.
Children
Accounts are for people 13 and older. If you believe a younger child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
