architectural register
A register the instruction set names and your code uses, such as rax or x0, as opposed to the hidden storage a processor actually keeps values in.
An architectural register is one named by the ISA (16 integer registers on x86-64, 31 on ARM64 and RISC-V); a renaming core maps each to one of many physical registers.
