Free public beta until December 4, 2026: every course is open, no card needed. After that, the first chapter of each course stays free and full access is a one-time $39 ($19 for up to 100 founding members chosen for helpful feedback). Your progress is kept. How the beta works

branch offset

The distance stored inside a jump or branch instruction: how far to go from here, not the address to go to.

A branch offset is the signed PC-relative displacement encoded in a branch: x86-64 adds it to the address of the next instruction (rel8 or rel32), ARM64 multiplies it by 4 and adds it to the branch's own address, and RISC-V adds it (a multiple of 2) to the branch's own address.

Examples

  • A 2-byte jmp at 0x1000 encoded eb 10 lands at 0x1002 + 0x10 = 0x1012.
