condition code

The short name in a conditional instruction that says which comparison result to act on, such as l for signed less or b for unsigned below.

A condition code names a predicate on the flags; x86-64 uses e, ne, l, le, g, ge (signed) and b, be, a, ae (unsigned); ARM64 uses eq, ne, lt, le, gt, ge (signed) and lo, ls, hi, hs (unsigned).

Examples

  • After cmp eax, ebx, the code l (less, signed) holds when SF ≠ OF, and b (below, unsigned) when CF = 1.
