directive
A line in assembly that instructs the assembler (for example "this is code" or "make this name visible") rather than producing an instruction.
An assembler directive (pseudo-op), typically starting with a dot, controls assembly (sections, symbol visibility, alignment, data emission) without encoding an instruction itself.
