heap corruption
Damage to the heap's own bookkeeping or to a neighbouring block, caused by writing where the program shouldn't; it is usually noticed much later.
Heap corruption is any overwrite of allocator metadata or of a block not owned by the writer (overflow past a block, use-after-free write, double free); it is typically detected later by an allocator consistency check that aborts, or surfaces as an unrelated crash.
