Free public beta until December 4, 2026: every course is open, no card needed. After that, the first chapter of each course stays free and full access is a one-time $39 ($19 for up to 100 founding members chosen for helpful feedback). Your progress is kept. How the beta works

implicit leading bit

The 1 before the binary point of a normal number, which is never stored because it is always 1.

Because a normal significand always lies in [1, 2), its leading 1 is implied rather than encoded, giving one more bit of precision than the fraction field holds.

Examples

  • For 6.5 = 1.101 × 2², only the fraction bits 101 are stored; the leading 1 is implied.
