L2 cache
The second level of cache: bigger and slower than L1, catching most of what misses there.
The level-2 cache is a unified (code and data) cache, private to one core on current x86-64 designs (about 1-3 MB) or shared by a cluster on Apple designs (several MB), with a latency of roughly 12-20 cycles.
