loop-carried dependency
A value one loop iteration needs from the previous iteration, such as a running sum; it chains every iteration together.
A loop-carried dependency links an operation in iteration i+1 to a result of iteration i; the loop then runs no faster than one chain latency per iteration, whatever the core's width.
