minor page fault
A page fault the operating system can fix without touching the disk, such as handing out a fresh zero-filled page; cheap, but not free.
A minor (soft) page fault is resolved from memory alone (zero fill, copy-on-write copy, mapping a page already in the page cache); it costs on the order of a microsecond.
