jump discontinuity
A break where the function's value suddenly steps from one level to another — the one- and two-sided limits disagree.
A jump discontinuity occurs at x=a when both one-sided limits exist but are unequal — the function approaches two different finite values from the left and right, so no single two-sided limit exists.
Examples
A flat shipping-rate function that charges $5 for orders under $50 and $0 at $50 and above jumps at $50.
