monomial

A polynomial with exactly one term, like 5x^3.

A monomial is a polynomial consisting of a single term, a_n x^n — one coefficient times one power of the variable. Its term count is fixed at one, independent of its degree: 5x^7 and 5x are both monomials.

Examples

  • 8x^4 is a monomial.

  • -3 is also a monomial (a constant term, with x^0).
