one-to-one function

A function where distinct inputs always give distinct outputs.

A function $f$ is one-to-one if distinct inputs always produce distinct outputs: $x_1 \neq x_2$ implies $f(x_1)\neq f(x_2)$ . Only one-to-one functions have inverse functions.
