radicand

The expression sitting underneath a radical sign.

The radicand is the expression inside a radical, under the root symbol — the a in \sqrt[n]{a}. A radical is fully simplified only once its radicand has no leftover perfect-power factors.

Examples

  • In \sqrt{50}, the radicand is 50.
