panorama

A single wide photo built by aligning and blending several overlapping photos taken from one fixed viewpoint.

A panorama is a single wide image built by stitching several overlapping photos taken by rotating a camera around one fixed point. Because the camera only rotates, any two overlapping photos are related by a projective transform (specifically a homography), and stitching software estimates that homography from matched keypoints to blend the photos into one seamless image.

Examples

  • A phone's panorama mode captures a dozen overlapping photos while the camera rotates in place, then stitches them into one wide image using a homography estimated between each adjacent pair.
