probability
A number between 0 and 1 measuring how likely an event is, with 1 meaning certain.
A probability is a number p \in [0,1] measuring how likely an event is: p=1 means the event always happens, p=0 means it never does. Two events are independent if knowing one happened tells you nothing about whether the other did, which is exactly what lets RANSAC multiply per-sample probabilities together (this section's own consensus guarantee) instead of needing a more complicated joint calculation.
Examples
If a coin is fair, the probability of heads is p=0.5; two separate flips are independent, so the probability both land heads is 0.5\times0.5=0.25.
