mock
A stand-in object used in a test in place of the real thing.
A mock (more generally a test double, such as a fake, stub, spy or mock) replaces a dependency so a test can control its answers or verify how it was called.
Examples
var sender = Substitute.For<IEmailSender>();in NSubstitute gives a stand-in whose calls you can check afterwards.
