structured logging

Logging named values, not just text, so logs can be searched and filtered.

Structured logging records a message template plus named properties (ILogger's {Placeholders}) that sinks can store as fields rather than flattened text.

Examples

  • logger.LogInformation("Order {OrderId} shipped to {City}", order.Id, order.City); records OrderId and City as fields you can search on.
