cumulative histogram

A running total of the histogram up to a given intensity.

The cumulative histogram H(i)=\sum_{k=0}^{i}h(k) is a running total of the histogram up to intensity i; histogram equalization derives the point operation f(v)=255\cdot H(v)/N from it, spreading intensity values to use the full available range.
