sampling
Measuring a continuous scene only at discrete, evenly spaced grid locations.
Sampling measures a continuous scene only at a discrete grid, spaced by the sampling interval. When scene detail repeats faster than the grid can distinguish, the result is aliasing -- a false, coarser pattern (a moire pattern) that was never actually in the scene.
