overcounting
Counting a bigger, easier set where every real outcome is hit the same number of times, then dividing that fixed factor away.
A naive count N overcounts a set by a uniform factor r when every genuine outcome is counted exactly r times; the true count is N/r.
Examples
n people around a circle: n! overcounts by exactly n (one per rotation), giving (n-1)!.
