timer
A peripheral that counts clock ticks and can trigger events or generate PWM.
A hardware timer counts clock ticks independently of the CPU. Its compare unit can raise an interrupt or toggle a pin at a set count (generating PWM), and its capture unit can record the count when an input edge arrives.
