pronoun-antecedent agreement

Matching a pronoun's number to its antecedent's number.

Pronoun-antecedent agreement requires a pronoun to match its antecedent in number — a singular antecedent takes a singular pronoun, and a plural antecedent takes a plural pronoun.

Examples

  • The interns finished their assignment.

  • The intern finished his assignment.
