provisioning station

The factory computer that forwards CSRs for signing, records devices and audits every attempt.

A provisioning station is the production-line system that brokers identity issuance for each unit -- forwarding CSRs to a CA, recording serials and public data in the registry, and logging every attempt -- without holding device private keys.

Examples

  • The provisioning station forwards each node's CSR for signing, adds a registry record with status manufactured, and logs every attempt.

  • The station never holds the CA's private key; that stays in an HSM.
