conversation

A back-and-forth exchange of turns between a user and a model, each turn tagged with a role.

A conversation is a sequence of role-tagged turns (system, user, assistant) that a chat-formatted model is prompted with, one exchange building on the last, each new reply conditioned on everything said before it in that same exchange.

Examples

  • A customer-support chatbot session is one conversation: several user/assistant turns in a row.
