singular
A square matrix with no inverse.
A square matrix A is singular if no matrix A^{-1} satisfying AA^{-1}=A^{-1}A=I exists. Singular matrices are exactly the square matrices that fail every equivalent condition of the invertible matrix theorem: \det A = 0, row reduction stalls before reaching I, and A\mathbf x=\mathbf 0 has a nontrivial solution.
