precedence convention
A convention that lets some brackets be left out by ranking the connectives.
A precedence convention ranks the connectives (usually ¬, then ∧, then ∨, then →, then ↔) so that a higher-ranked connective is grouped first when brackets are omitted. This course writes the brackets in, but you will meet the convention in other books.
Examples
Under the usual convention, P ∧ Q ∨ R is read as (P ∧ Q) ∨ R.
