central path

The curve traced by a barrier method's minimizer as its weight shrinks toward zero.

The central path is the curve \{x(\mu):\mu>0\} traced by the barrier subproblem's minimizer x(\mu)=\arg\min_xB(x;\mu) as \mu ranges over every positive value. It lies entirely inside the feasible region and approaches the constrained optimum x^* as \mu\to0^+.
