linear program

An optimization problem whose objective and every constraint are linear in the decision variables.

A linear program (LP) minimizes a linear objective c^\top x subject to linear constraints, typically written in standard form Ax=b,\ x\ge0. Because both the objective and the feasible region's boundary are built entirely from linear pieces, an LP's feasible region is a polyhedron and (per the extreme point theorem) an optimal solution can always be found at one of its vertices.
