PATH variable

The list of folders a terminal searches for a command you type.

PATH is an environment variable listing directories searched in order for executables; rustup adds ~/.cargo/bin to it.

Examples

  • command not found: rustc right after installing means ~/.cargo/bin is not on PATH yet; . "$HOME/.cargo/env" adds it to the current terminal.
