string literal

Text written in quotes in your code.

A string literal "..." has type &'static str: a reference to text stored in the program itself.

Examples

  • let greeting: &str = "Hello"; compiles, but greeting.push_str(", world") fails with E0599: a literal is fixed text, not a growable String.
