procedure linkage table

A set of tiny jump stubs, one per library function, that a call like call printf@PLT goes through on its way to the library.

The procedure linkage table (PLT) holds one stub per called external function; each stub jumps through the function's GOT entry, which initially leads to the dynamic linker's resolver (lazy binding) or is filled at load time (immediate binding, -z now).

Examples

  • call puts@PLT goes to a small stub that jumps on through puts's GOT entry.
