Free public beta until December 4, 2026: every course is open, no card needed. After that, the first chapter of each course stays free and full access is a one-time $39 ($19 for up to 100 founding members chosen for helpful feedback). Your progress is kept. How the beta works

relocation entry

One line of an object file's list of unfinished places: where the bytes are, which symbol they need, and how to compute the value.

A relocation entry records an offset within a section, a relocation type, a symbol and an addend (stored in the entry on ELF RELA, or in the bytes being patched on Mach-O and COFF); objdump -r, readelf -r, otool -r and dumpbin /relocations list them.

Examples

  • 0x6 R_X86_64_PLT32 helper-0x4: patch the 4 bytes at offset 6 with the distance to helper, minus 4.
