reorder buffer
A queue that keeps every in-flight instruction in program order, so results can be made official in order even though the work was done out of order.
The reorder buffer holds each in-flight operation in program order from rename until retirement, recording completion and exceptions; its size (hundreds of entries on current big cores) bounds how far ahead the core can look.
