shared library
A library that stays a separate file and is joined to each program that uses it when the program starts, instead of being copied into the program when it is built.
A shared library (.so on Linux, .dylib on macOS, .dll on Windows) is a linked module loaded at run time by the dynamic linker; one copy of the file on disk serves every program that uses it, and its global symbols are its interface.
