vtable

A table of function addresses, one per virtual function, shared by every object of a class.

A vtable is a per-class, read-only array of function pointers (plus, in the Itanium ABI, offset-to-top and type information before the address point) whose slot k holds the class's override of its k-th virtual function.

Examples

  • A class with two virtual functions has a vtable of two function pointers, and each object holds a pointer to it.
