x87
The old x86 floating-point unit with a stack of eight 80-bit registers; still present, but modern code uses SSE instead.
x87 is the legacy x86 FPU with an 8-entry register stack of 80-bit extended-precision values; on x86-64 it survives mainly for long double on Linux and macOS and is otherwise replaced by SSE.
