antiderivative

A function whose derivative is the given function — differentiation run in reverse.

An antiderivative of f is any function F with F'(x)=f(x). If F is one antiderivative, every other one has the form F(x)+C for some constant C, since two functions with the same derivative differ only by a constant.

Examples

  • F(x)=x^3 is an antiderivative of f(x)=3x^2, and so is x^3+7.
