reflection

Flipping a graph across a line, like a mirror image.

A reflection of a graph across the $x$ -axis replaces $f(x)$ with $-f(x)$ ; a reflection across the $y$ -axis replaces $f(x)$ with $f(-x)$ . Every point moves to the mirror-image position on the opposite side of the axis, the same distance away.

Examples

$y=-x^2$ is the reflection of $y=x^2$ across the $x$ -axis.
