text detection

Locating the regions of an image that contain text, without reading what they say.

Text detection locates the regions of an image (typically as bounding boxes or polygons) that contain text, without attempting to read what the text says -- the first stage of an OCR pipeline, handed off to text recognition.

Examples

  • Text detection draws a box around a street sign's lettering without yet attempting to read what it says.
