CancellationToken

A signal you pass along so a long job can be told to stop early.

A CancellationToken, issued by a CancellationTokenSource, lets code observe a cancellation request cooperatively (ThrowIfCancellationRequested, or passing it to cancellable APIs).

Examples

  • using var cts = new CancellationTokenSource(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5)); then GetStringAsync(url, cts.Token) gives up after five seconds.
