source generation

The compiler writing extra code for you while it builds your program.

A source generator runs during compilation and adds C# source to it; System.Text.Json's generator emits serialization code for the types a JsonSerializerContext lists, so no reflection is needed.

Examples

  • [JsonSerializable(typeof(Order))] partial class AppJson : JsonSerializerContext { } makes the compiler write Order's JSON code at build time.
