user secrets

A private settings file on your own machine for passwords and keys while developing.

The Secret Manager stores development-time settings outside the project folder, keyed by UserSecretsId, and loads them in the Development environment; it is not encryption and not for production.

Examples

  • dotnet user-secrets set "Payments:ApiKey" "dev-key-123" stores the key outside the project folder.
