decision record

A short document recording one significant design decision, its context and consequences.

An architecture decision record captures one decision in context, decision and consequences; a reversed decision gets a new record that supersedes the old one.

Examples

  • "We run our own Mosquitto rather than a managed broker, because the site must work offline (F3)" is a decision record, filed in docs/decisions/.

  • A reversed decision gets a new record that supersedes the old one, so the history stays.
