method

The verb in an HTTP request, like GET (read) or POST (create).

The method names the action of an HTTP request: GET and HEAD are safe, GET, PUT and DELETE are idempotent, POST is neither.

Examples

  • The sensor uses POST to add a new reading; a dashboard uses GET to read the list.

  • The dashboard sets the valve with PUT /api/benches/bench1/valve and the body {"open_pct":40}.
