linker script

The map that tells the linker where flash and RAM are on the chip and where each part of the program goes.

A linker script declares the target's memory regions and assigns output sections (.text, .data, .bss) to them; esp-hal supplies linkall.x, passed with -Tlinkall.x.

Examples

  • -Tlinkall.x passes esp-hal's linker script, which tells the linker where the ESP32-C6's flash and RAM are.

  • Code goes into flash and variables into RAM because the linker script says so; the wrong script would place them at addresses the chip doesn't have.
