target triple

A name like riscv32imac-unknown-none-elf that tells the compiler which processor and system to build for.

A target triple names an architecture, vendor, operating system and ABI (here riscv32imac, unknown, none, elf); the compiler and linker produce code and objects for that target.

Examples

  • riscv32imac-unknown-none-elf decodes to a 32-bit RISC-V core, no vendor, no operating system, and ELF output: the ESP32-C6.

  • The ESP32-S3 uses the triple xtensa-esp32s3-none-elf instead, because its processor is Xtensa, not RISC-V.
