push notification

A message an app's server sends to a phone through Apple's or Google's push service.

A push notification is delivered to a device through the platform push service (APNs, FCM), which may delay, coalesce or drop messages and offers no delivery guarantee.

Examples

  • A too-hot alert sent as a push notification goes from the greenhouse back end to Apple's or Google's push service, which delivers it to the grower's phone when it next can.
