Sending a notification to a web page's background worker through the browser's push service.

Web push delivers messages via the Push API to a service worker through the browser vendor's push service, authenticated with a VAPID key pair; delivery is best effort and platform support varies.

Examples

  • The greenhouse dashboard's service worker subscribes to web push, so the back end can send an encrypted too-hot alert through the browser's push service even while the page is closed.
